"After 2024’s Yesterday Don’t Fail Me Now and its weighty ruminations on the death of my dad, I wanted the next thing to feel weightless and simple and happy," says the band's Michael Flynn. "I wanted to luxuriate in comfort food. And I wanted to make a record with my longtime Slow Runner partner Josh Kaler, both because the songs reflect on some of the ups and downs of early bandhood but also because I selfishly wanted to experience the record making process of our youth again. I wanted to make creative decisions together with my friend, this time with all the gratitude and understanding that age brings. So the songs and their performances are really just us passing the same love letter back and forth, putting everything we had into every moment. The result is the most joyous and playful thing we’ve ever made, an emotional eruption of chorusy stratocasters and Juno patches and caveman drums. Every cheesy idea was embraced and cranked up to 11. After the heavy lifting of the last record it felt like swimming through clouds. The songs are earnest synth pop laced with guitar and bass and drums, colliding with youth choirs and horns. Lyrically they explore a lot of the overlap between being in middle school and looking over the edge of the fence towards adulthood, and being a musician in your 20s and dreaming of bigger things to come. Making this record was a celebration of creative life. More than anything these songs are in love with the world, whether it loves them back or not."
