Sarah Arthur, the Spiritual Journey of an American Jewish Woman, a Folk Musical, is a project that has been years in the making. The tunes, that are the basis for the musical were written all over the country from Portland Oregon, Austin Texas,
Summertown Tennessee, Nashville, Tennessee, New York City, Guatemala, Floyd
Virginia and Asheville North Carolina. The musicians, artists and engineers helped
create the album are from those parts of the country as well. The final work and inspiration for the musical arises from the ravages of Hurricane Helene. Artists in Asheville NC found that creating art and music helped them deal with the devastation around them. As the narrator of Sarah Arthur says, beauty arises from destruction. Although focusing on a Jewish Woman, Sarah’s story is in fact, everyone's story and reflects everyone's search for meaning in life. Like Sarah, we all question what we are doing here on this planet? Do we have any purpose or is life meaningless? These are the questions that Sarah faces through the lens of her culture, her upbringing and her
family's Holocaust history. She deals with these questions head on, although she never
appears to come to a complete resolution.The story and narrative interweave in a beautiful way with the songs that give life to the story.
